Description

This course provides an in-depth study on quality improvement methodologies in the health information management/informatics environment. Students will learn the philosophy, knowledge and skills of continuous quality improvement process. Topics include: principles and models of quality improvement, organizational strategic planning, key performance indicators (KPIs), performance measures, compilation and presentation of data in statistical formats, performance improvement tools (e.g., Six Sigma, Lean, flowcharting, and cause and effect diagrams and root cause analysis), measuring data retrieval, statistical process control techniques, outcomes analysis and the aspect of risk management for sectors of healthcare. Accreditation and government standards will be analyzed.
