Course Title
Research and Evaluation in the field of Positive Youth Development
Department(s)
Description
This course will provide an overview of the topics of research and evaluation in the field of youth development. The course will focus on a range of content knowledge, skill development and opportunities for application to gain deep understanding of the ways in which research metrics historically and contemporaneously can be used and misused across the interdisciplinary field space where Youth Studies sits at the educational-community development nexus. Students will be introduced to subtopics from within three arenas: (1) program evaluation; (2) academic social science research; and (3) methods for designing data models. Students will exit the class with a comprehensive, critical understanding of evaluative models for immediate implementation, modes of inquiry relating to both big and small data, and the ability to apply their knowledge in local community contexts in their professional and academic lives.
