Course Title
International and Comparative Youth Studies
Department(s)
Description
This course will provide an interdisciplinary, international survey of youth studies. The course will focus on youth in a comparative framework to understand how youth studies and education relate to global social, political and cultural factors and forces. Time will be spent on both localized case studies and international comparative studies so that students gain an understanding of the various ways youth are conceptualized, educated, developed and often policed by systems and municipal entities as well as the ways that they self-organize for political and social justice. Students in the class will create profiles of countries as well as youth leaders to add to a base of knowledge and will create final papers on topics discussed throughout. Students will exit the class with a comprehensive, critical understanding of approaches to academic research to support their evolving reflective practice as scholars and practitioners.
